While I wouldn’t call this app a barn burner weather widget, it’s not as dreadful as some of the reviews here indicate. With that being said, it provides all the info you would expect from a weather app, with even an extended temperature forecast, current conditions, a current weather icon and temperature in the menubar, and a radar. While I personally prefer Weatherman for my menubar weather app, this is fine as well (and free). At least it’s not running as an active app like Weatherman does, which really hogs up CPU. If you click on any of Weatherbugs panels, it’ll take you to their site for more information. I could neither find an update button for the most accurate weather readings, nor could I find a way to set the frequency of how often it grabs the current weather. It also doesn’t have an extended weather conditions display, just an extended temperature display. In other words, it’ll show you the temps for the upcoming 7 days but not the weather conditions. If you click on that panel, it takes you to its website for more info, which defeats the purpose of having it in your menubar. Those two items are why I can’t give it a five-star review. It’s ok. It’s by no means a five-star app, but it’s not a one-star app either. But as noted, it is free. That counts for something in my book.
I really like the alert feature in the app. The weather conditions in the menu bar changes to a red triangle when there is an alert. Then I can expand the menu icon to see the Radar map or goto the detailed website to see the weather/alert details by clicking specific area on the expanded app.
my version will not update anymore, its been like this for 3 days, also it will not respond to my mouse?…..
I use this app in a daily bases and I found it very useful and informative.
Nice, elegant design and really easy to use. I like how I can see the most pertinent weather info at my fingertips while at work. And, if I want more information, it’s just a click away to the WeatherBug website. I don’t understand why people complain about ads when the app is free. And, why would I want every feature from WeatherBug on my status bar? If I want more feature rich WeatherBug content, I can just use WeatherBug on my iPhone, like I did before. This was a great idea! Well done, WeatherBug.
Just downloaded the app on my Mac. Will not open, just makes background noise
I have wanted a quality weather app- one I would use daily, and truly rely on here. I found it. I’m very pleased with this little app. I like the all of the info it provides, and especially the radar. I appreciate its features, and the work its developers put into it. Thanks!
1) Nobody asked for a replacement of the WeatherBug Dashboard widget with a menubar applet. 2) The Dashboard can be invoked with a convenient swipe, whereas the menubar app requires precise placement and clicking of the trackpad/mouse pointer. 3) The original widget displayed a clear, graphical 3-day weather forecast including conditions and hi/o temps. The new app displays only a single days forecast, in a hard to read font/layout, and opens an fing web page if you want to view more. 4) There is an infinite variety of superior weather websites. WeatherBug Lite fails to provide any useful utility and is a step down from its Dashboard predecessor. In short, it’s worthless.
I would suggest you stay away from this application for a Mac running the latest software. Has anyone had this problem. I have it on my iPhone and iPad and it works fine.
Just loaded this through the app store, I am running Version 10.11.3 and it loads but no information will display. I really like the weather bug normally because it stays live in my upper bar… but this version needs fixing… what a bummer.
Got icon on my toolbar, but will not open or give any info.
Will not work on my Mac Air. Don’t know why but cannot open. I like it on my iPhone. Need to fix it.
Works on my Mac Pro (Yosemite) and MacBook Pro (El Capitan) just fine. Much more accurate than Degrees Pro. No ability to pull up webcam view with the app as you can with the IOS app. Ability to zoom radar would be nice instead of the fixed zoom frame. Color in the icon (sunny, rain, etc.) would be wonderful, but keeping with Apple’s boring black/white I guess is expected.
Love this app and use exclusively for weather on my iPhone and iPad, but does not work at all on MacBook Pro (Retina).
Runs great on 10.11.4. I like being able to see the temp at a glance.
This is the buggiest app I’ve ever downloaded. It worked for one day, then froze for three days. No way to quit. No response from any of its controls or links. Then when I restarted the app, nothing workedl it lost all my settings and refused to accept new settings. This app is OBVIOUSLY UNTESTED. This app is not even ready for beta-test, so what’s it doing in the app store? This app should not even be allowed in the store. After the first day, I almost purchased the “non-lite’ version, but now I never will. Unless you are a glutten for punishment, don’t even download this; it is totally untested garbage! Even the company’s website is the buggiest site I’ve ever visited.Don’t waste your time.
I down loaded Weather Bug APP last week on my MacBook Pro and it works as advertised.
WEATHERBUG, WAKE UP! This version is not working with El Cap!! Get it fixed!
I had been on Weatherbug’s case for a couple of years at least to get a new Weatherbug app for Mac once they decided to make it obsolete. I asked them many times and instead of assuring me that they were working on a new version, they dismissed the idea as never going to happen! Anyway, this version is okay….I LOVE the icons that show what the weather is or if it is foggy: it is a little car with some “mist” around it. :) Now to what I don’t like…now hang on, this is IMPORTANT. Weatherbug! You NEED to bring back your “chirp” to the app! This is the one and only thing I miss. It was greatly appreciated when the bug would “chirp” and blink in the menubar to let me know that severe weather was coming! When I lived in Delaware through two hurricanes/superstorms and a few tornado warnings, this is what I felt protected us from potential disaster. Why you guys decided to drop this ever-important feature is beyond me. When you main the older versions obsolete, I had spent a lot of money and time searching for a replacement and so far nothing comes as close. I do have one I like over Weatherbug but it lacks the “chirp” alert. BRING THE “CHIRP” ALERT BACK! IT IS A LIFESAVER!
